The company was founded in 1860 by VICENTE ROMERO CARRANZA, whose parents Florencio Romero and Agueda Carranza settled in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz, Spain) in 1820. Their son Vicente acquired wine and sherry stocks as a base to start a great winery. During this period Don Vicente continued running the wine business and, married to Ana Villareal y Gutierrez, launched the company under the registered name "Vicente Romero Carranza"  and which later, when Don Vicente died in 1890, continued with his three sons Vicente, Baldomero and Pedro Romero Villareal as "Sons of Vicente Romero Carranza"

In 1904 PEDRO ROMERO VILLARREAL purchased the entire winery from his brothers Vicente and Baldomero, (Baldomero was father of the famous painter Baldomero Romero Ressendi). In honour of his wife, Pedro Romero Villareal gave the name "" to his emblematic Manzanilla, which is today our best known brand of this type of wine. In 1907 in the Madrid Exhibition, with the Amontillado "", he won two gold medals. Pedro Romero Ltd. didn't enter another competition until 1998.

Doña Aurora Ambrosse Lacave

With the death of Pedro Romero Villareal in 1911, his surviving wife Doña AURORA AMBROSSE y LACAVE assumed the responsibility of running the winery on behalf of their young children Aurora, Pedro and Fernando Romero Ambrosse. The business changed name at this time to "Heirs of Pedro Romero Villarreal" and at a later date, upon the death of Aurora, to "Son of Pedro Romero Villarreal - Pedro Romero" - the commercial name which it still holds today.

The present owners, successors of the unforgettable ROMERO AMBROSSE brothers, continue the work of the aging and sale of magnificent Brandies, Sanlúcar Manzanillas, Jerez Wines and Wine Vinegars of high quality into the 21st Century. Since 1955 the company has traded as a company with registered shares.
