he history: A family-owned bodega

Forty years after his parents moved to Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Vicente Romero Carranza began to set up his prestigious bodega. Upon his death in 1890, his three sons, Vicente, Baldomero and Pedro Romero Villarreal, continued with his life's work under the name of "Hijos de Vicente Romero Carranza" (Sons of Vicente Romero Carranza).

In 1904 Pedro Romero Villarreal took over the whole business from his brothers and gave his wife's name, Aurora, to the manzanilla pasada, the most prestigious brand of this type of wine. Then, in 1911, following the death of her husband, Aurora Ambrosse Lacave herself took over the reins of the business because her three children, Aurora, Pedro and Fernando Romero Ambrosse were still very small. In an environment as traditional as that of Jerez, the fact that a woman was running a bodega was another notable aspect in the evolution of the family company.

Later, following the death of Aurora, the business adopted the name "Hijos de Pedro Romero Villarreal - Pedro Romero", which it has maintained until today. The current owners, successors to the Romero Ambrosse family, continue to create magnificent brandies, Sanlúcar manzanillas, sherry wines, and high quality vinegars.
